Café Brio is about a 30 minute walk, 10 minute drive from Albion Manor. Fernando and I don’t get there too often, but it is a real pleasure whenever we do. The ambience is pleasant, warm and relaxed. As I get on in years, I need a bit more light and although I love the lighting, wouldn’t mind a bit more on the tables for reading the menu. There is a bistro-style casualness about the restaurant, with well placed tables, central bar and counter area, and lots of decorative items to start conversations.
The food, of course, is the main reason to return time and again. Although nominally Italian, the food is more ‘West Coast Italian Fusion’, but imaginative and thoughtfully prepared is also
accurate. And of course fresh. Good wine list, friendly owner, and good service.
The menu is varied and changes with the seasons to some extent. Each meal is beautifully assembled so that the tastes are complementary. Fernando had the ‘Crispy Duck Confit’, while I had the ‘Rabbit Fricassé’. Both excellent. Plates are large enough to share if you choose. And leave room for dessert.
